Why wear an LSO Brace?

An LSO back brace can help unload some of the weight normally placed on the lower back, in this process reducing pressure on the spine’s joints, discs, and muscles. By reducing spinal pressure, a back brace may lessen painful muscle tension which is a common protective reaction following an injury.

LSO stands for Lumbosacral Orthosis, or basically, a low back brace that facilitates postural and functional support.

Out of 879 surveyed patients who received an LSO back brace, 65% experienced pain relief within the first hour.

65% of those same patients were able to resume activities they had previously discontinued such as exercising, driving, and sitting at a desk.

The above patient survey results are a combination of two surveys performed by Disc Disease Solutions, Inc. in late 2011 and again in early 2014. DDS, Inc. mailed out a multi-page questionnaire to all patients who had received an LSO back brace during that period. The total amount of questionnaires returned was 879. The intent of the survey is for the sole purpose of gathering information directly from LSO back brace users regarding their own experience.

Using an LSO back brace at the beginning of a patient's care plan (during the acute stage of their pain) will oftentimes be the tool your patient needs to continue their daily activities. This is--of course--WHILE you work with them to restore function and correct the underlying issue causing them back pain.

LSO back braces are an effective--drug-free--solution for fast, temporary relief. More and more studies are being published that are strongly encouraging doctors to attempt handling low back pain conservatively with the combined use of bracing, physical therapy, chiropractic spinal manipulation, and exercise before a patient is ever considered for an opioid prescription.
